My Journey to Praxis

We dreamed up the Praxis Institute during my time as Executive Director of the British Columbia Council for International Cooperation. Our vision was partly based on previous integral leadership programs we developed and delivered when I was the Executive Director of One Sky - The Canadian Institute of Sustainable Living. These programs further evolved in partnership at the time with Integral Without Borders on which I served as a board member.  These integrally informed programs were called "Leading From Within" and borrowed heavily from Integral Theory and our experiences with integral leadership training in Canada and abroad for both non profits and the private sector. It was a pleasure to adapt these programs toward leadership specifically targeting the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). My journey to the Praxis Institute has included more than a decade as an award winning documentary producer, fifteen years with One Sky delivering programs in Canada, Africa and South and Central America and more than forty years now in social justice movements. As a global environmental leader in Canada I have been a board member of numerous networks, worked or travelled in over 60 countries, and spent considerable time helping organizations develop capacity, working with individual leadership programs or helping to design and deliver sustainable development programs. I have been instrumental in raising over 120 million dollars for non profits, heading delegations to the United Nations and founding and organizing networks. My work has taken me from conflict zones where I worked with child soldiers to forest conservation in the Amazon. I love a deep conversation and enjoy fuelling other people's passion for social change. I have taken leadership courses as a participant and been trained in conflict resolution as well as Big Mind facilitation. I am a practicing Zen adept. My greatest teacher, to date, has been my daughter. I find purpose in developing leadership in our sector and transforming organizations and movements toward a better world.  I believe it is a basic moral intuition we all have and Praxis is designed to ignite it and keep it burning.
